How you can travel to Lesvos?

Air

First way is by airplane. The airport is situated 5km out of Mitilini (capital) and has frequent connection flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, Lemnos, Chios and Crete. Furthermore, in the summertime there are more flights destinations and direct international flights. Olympic Airlines  and Aegean Airlines are the two Greek airlines that fly domestically to Mititlini airport.

 

Ship

Second way to come is by high speed ferry boat or ship. Mitilini harbor has daily trips to Pireaus (Athens), Chios, Thessaloniki, Kavala and Lemnos. There are trips from the harbor to Ayvalik (Turkey) every week.  During the summer season there are more destinations to other Aegean Islands (such as Samos, Kos, Rhodes, etc). NEL Lines and ANEK are the two shipping companies that travel to Lesvos.

 
     
How you can come to Anaxos?

Bus

By bus is one option. There are daily bus trips with a frequent time schedule which you can find at the bus station which is situated at Konstantinopoleos Square (Mitilini). It takes approximately an hour to get to Petra by bus. To get to the Harris-Studios you would have to take the local bus to Anaxos. It will take you a minute to get here from the bus stop, just follow the board sign.

 

Taxi

The second, faster and more expensive option is by taxi. There are taxi’s available at the Airport, Harbour, Sapho Square and Cyprion Patrioton Square. The taxi’s on the island are yellow or gray in color. By taxi it should take you roughly 50 minutes to get to the Harris-Studios.

 
     

 

     

Currency

ACCESS TO MONEY

Euro (€) is the currency used in Greece. Unfortunately, there are no banks or cash machines in Anaxos. The good news is that Harris studios exchanges foreign currency and traveler's cheques.  The nearest ATM machine is in Petra and the nearest bank is in Molyvos.  Most shops and taverns in Anaxos do accept credit cards.

Heath & Care

HEALTH SERVICE

Anaxos has an emergency doctor available 24 hours a day to provide medical assistance.

There is a Doctors clinic in Petra which has an ambulance and three private doctors. You can find the clinic on the seafront near the pharmacy which is situated before the town square.The pharmacist will help you with many minor problems that may occur.

Should you need to pay a visit to a dentist a private surgery is available in Petra. The hours are between 09:30-13:00

If you are a European citizen there is a medical coverage form called E111 which covers medical expenditures abroad. Before traveling it is advisable to collect the form from the medical insurance office.

POST OFFICE

Anaxos does not have a post office, but there is one in Petra and Molyvos open between 08:00-14:00.

A stamp to the UK will cost approximately 0.60 cents. Stamps may be purchased from supermarkets, tourist shops and kiosks. Mail takes 3-7 days to reach the UK.

You can post your letters in one of the yellow boxes writing ELTA on them.The closest box near Harris is on the main street in front of the "Kafeneo".

Yacht owners may phone any of the stations for relevant information before sailing.

In Greece mobile phones companies operate on two networks GSM 900 and GSM 1800. The mobile companies which provides services are four (Vodafon, Wind, Cosmote and Q).

Phone cards can be bought at kiosks or mini markets and there are many phone booths to call from.  If you bring your mobile phone with you the cheapest thing to do is to buy a SIM card with a Greek number, otherwise you get charged double for phone calls or messages.

Shops

SHOPS

The local shops open from 08:00-22:00, seven days a week. Non-tourist shops close on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

Most British newspapers and magazines are available at tourist shops or kiosks although they will be one or two days behind. There are two locally produced papers in English: The Athens News and the Hellenic Times, which cover both local and international news.

The local bus goes between ANAXOS and EFTALOU. There is also a bus that runs between Petra, Kalloni and Mytilini.
